1.
"...Maybe later this morning / maybe later tonight / maybe sometime around midnight/ the moon will shine out bright / & I'll see the glowing firelight / reflected in your eyes...It's 28 degrees in Saugerties with snow upon the ground."
2.
"...Its the closest night of the year/ the Hudson Line is down / Winter Advisory sayin' "You ain't going no nowhere on the coldest night of the year..."
3.
"...The last time on the bandstand / You were half a step out of tune / No guidebooks page or kinfolks rage / You're wandering the ruins. Past ramshackle dreaming / There's rainbows and there's gloom / Until the time someone minds / And throws you from the room. Blissful Oblivion, did you have a pleasant day / Will you hold together / On another begone day.
4.
Win Her Back 03:47
"... You won't answer when he calls / Foolish pride leads to his fall / He show up anyway at your front door / He just wants to win you back..." He just want to win her, just want to win her, just want to win her back. And Baby acting like she don't know where it's at / Yeah he just wants to win her back..."
5.
She's the queen of the apple towns / Her beauty grew out of harrowed ground / Springtime follows her around / She's the queen of the Apple towns / Her beauty kick-starts the dawn / On full moon she wears a jeweled crown / She's the queen of the apple towns / The Queen of the Apple Towns
6.
Calliope 05:14
"In homespun moonlight / Your eyes are burning bright / Stars are notes of music / In the symphony of night / Velvet bells are ringing / On the midnight tambourine / I hear laughter in the music / Spin around & dream. She's the sound of every laugh / On this busted phonograph / she's the color of the key / Calliope..."
7.
"Oh Katrine, please don't stay / You make to good folk die / with the evil this way / Come now Suzie, just follow me / Through this drowned, drowned city / Through this drowned, drowned city.
8.
Moving On 03:09
I'm moving on / I'm done with this song / Moving on / Yeah I'm set to roam / Moving on / I'm so done with your song/ Moving on / Yeah I'm already gone..."

about

Winter-solstice 2022 collection of rocking tunes recorded with my local all-star friends in Saugerties, NY. Tunes rehearsed at Big Pink Basement, some written at Big Pink. Some old some new. Coldest Night of the Year is the most bluesy with all stars John Sebastian on harmonica & Cindy Cashdollar slide guitar; Queen of the Apple Towns rocks with majestic 12 string electric guitar urgency. Drowned City is a bit of an epic elegy with Grand Piano by Danny Louis (of Government Mule); Blissful Oblivion is a dark reggae influenced cautionary tale with Danny providing clavinet and Hammond organ. Win Her Back a rag-timey tune maybe showing some Loving Spoonful influences - John Sebastian joins in with 12 String Acoustic, and Cindy Cashdollar plays Dobro. Calliope is the Jam-Band rocking with Danny's Hammond organ / Grand Piano creating textural interaction with Don's soaring '61 Stratocaster lead break. Moving on is a simple short elegiac guitar driven tune to end the record. Special thanks to my rhythmic friends Harvey Sorgen, veteran drummer extraordinaire and the great Kyle Esposito on bass who worked up the tunes with me despite a cold basement.
